TEMPLIN, Viktor (1920-1994)
Viktor Templin was a member of the Vladimir School of Artists. The influences of colour and subject matter again are strong and evident in many of his paintings. Although Templins work is rather more Abstract his beautiful selections of colour and vibrancy is clearly visible to the viewer. Templins simple application of paint creates such a strong final picture that it gives you the feeling that nature and his love of landscapes are of much importance to him. The vibrant colours in his paintings reflect the artist’s warm and prosperous optimism bursting out on to his canvas surfaces. Templin was born in Tula, Russia. Graduated from the Gorki Art School in 1937. He was imprisoned during the Stalin era and was sent to the Magadan Labour Camp for his “modern” tendencies in his art. He spent four years in exile. His work is represented in permanent collections in the National Galleries of Vladimir, Suzdal, Kovrovo and Alexandrov towns. His paintings are also in private collections in Spain, France, Great Britain, Japan, China and USA.
